AT ST CHAd's
Equality of opportunity is at the heart of our vision here at St Chad's. with an insistence that all pupils will have their individual needs met, regardless of their requirements, circumstances and/or background, in order for them to achieve their full potential.
We are very proud to offer Anchor and Lighthouse groups at St Chad's that provide a modified curriculum in an environment based on the nurture principles.
Lighthouse is a group intervention for those children who are unable to access ongoing learning successfully in their mainstream classroom. This may be due to fragmented or deprived early childhood experiences, learning difficulties, attachment disorders, disorders on the autism spectrum or anxieties and delays and inabilities to manage social and emotional situations.
The Lighthouse is open every afternoon and a curriculum is planned for the children , whereby each half term different national curriculum objectives are taught, as well as social and emotional needs and strategies taught and implemented. In addition, outdoor learning is encouraged weekly, as well as weekly enrichment style lessons that focus on life skills. Each session is dependent on age, stage and individual needs.
The Anchor nurture group is divided into 2 groups and runs for 45 minutes each on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. It operates on the 6 principles of nurture advocated by Marion Bennathan and Marjorie Boxall.
The children take part in a welcome activity, a short activity based on the child's PSHE development, have a snack and a goodbye activity and this is all delivered within the 45 minute short nuture session.
